What usually fails
After twenty-plus years of service calls, the causes repeat. Almost every dark yard we see comes down to one of these five things, and none of them require replacing the system.
- Corroded or unsealed wire splices — the single most common failure in coastal Orange County
- Transformers past their service life, or undersized for fixtures added later
- Landscape crews cutting buried wire with an edger or shovel
- Failed integrated LEDs in cheap aluminum fixtures that cannot be re-lamped
- Voltage drop at the end of a long run, leaving the far fixtures dim and orange
How we diagnose it
We meter the system rather than guess at it. Voltage is read at the transformer and at the fixture, runs are isolated, and faults are traced to the exact splice or cut instead of trenching the whole yard.

- Do you repair systems your company did not install?
- Most of our repair work is exactly that. We service every major brand — FX Luminaire, Kichler, Vista, Unique, Coastal Source, Hunza, Volt, Cast, Brilliance and more — plus plenty of systems no longer in production.
- My transformer keeps tripping. What does that mean?
- Almost always a short in a splice or a nicked wire underground, or a transformer loaded past capacity by fixtures added after the original install. Both are diagnosable in one visit.
- Is it cheaper to repair or replace?
- Repair, in most cases. Brass fixtures are built to be rebuilt, and existing wire and transformers often test sound. We replace only what actually failed, and tell you honestly when a corroded aluminum system is not worth saving.
